The New York Football Giants defeated the Chicago Bears 17-3 in an old school football rivalry that has been going on since 1925. The Giants defense played its best football of the season yesterday only allowing 110 yards total and knocking out Chicago’s first and second string quarterbacks. The defense had 10 sacks in the game with 9 coming in the first half! Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora had 3 sacks each showing that they are the Pro Bowlers they once were. Terrel Thomas and Deon Grant had an interception each. This New York Giants defense is the real deal! With the Giants only allowing 51 yards passing yesterday, this shows that they have filled those holes that they had last year and that they are one of the best secondaries in the NFL. The Giants pass defense ranks 2nd in the NFL averaging 139 yards a game. Now, their is room for improvement in this defense. Although they are tied for 2nd in sacks and 2nd in passing yards allowed, they are ranked 21st in opponent rushing yards. They must improve this by this Sunday because the Giants face the number one rusher in the league, Arian Foster. Overall the Giants defense has played great but their linebackers need to step up and make plays and they must stop the run.
Don’t even get me started on the offense. Eli Manning is one of the league leaders in interceptions and the Giants are ranked 2nd in turnovers this year. They need to learn how to take care of the ball! The offensive has been banged up all year but they need to give Eli some time in the pocket and let him make good throws to his receivers. The wide receivers need to learn how to catch the ball! 5 of Eli’s 6 interceptions have come off tipped balls from the receivers. Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, and Hakeem Nicks are all big plays receivers and can create big plays. Just let Eli throw the ball and they will be fine. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs have produced pretty well. Bradshaw rushed for 129 yards yesterday and I expect him to produce more.
Keys to victory this Sunday- The Giants defense needs to step up like they did this week and get pressure on Matt Schaub. I believe they can get pressure with Tuck, Osi, Canty, and Cofield. The Giants secondary must double team Andre Johnson. He is too good to be single covered so putting Corey Webster and Antrel Rolle on him should do the job. Their defense also needs to stop the run! Foster must be completely shut down for them to win. The Giants offense needs to establish the pass and get those big plays from the receivers. I expect a shootout in Houston this weekend
